About Mohammad Shamsuddoha

Experienced conservation biologist (10 years) with a master’s degree in Wildlife Biology from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Have extensive field and analytical research experiences on both terrestrial and marine megafaunas in Bangladesh to ensure species and habitat conservation. Extensive field experiences on different landscapes in Bangladesh covering mangroves in Sundarbans (+5 years) surveying through lands and canals, hilly areas (3 years) in Chittagong and north-central Bangladesh, human-dominated urban areas (2 years) in northern and central Bangladesh, and also in wetlands and southern coastal areas. More than two years of experience in conservation research of shark, ray and other marine Megafauna (dolphin, whale, turtles, etc.) in the Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of Bangladesh. Have experience in leading and coordinating large field team in different landscapes. Also experienced in GIS/Spatial analysis and cartography (5 years) includes working on species distribution modeling, threat/risk mapping, marine spatial planning on Marine protected areas/Marine reserves. Achieved certification from renowned authorities like Juniper GIS, SCGIS, ESRI, and SCBI. Achieved SCGIS International Scholar award in 2017. Skilled in advanced wildlife and habitat conservation research design, field surveys, statistical and spatial data analysis using advanced tools and system including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, Basecamp, Google Earth Pro, Mapsource, MaxEnt, Marxan, MS excel and programming languages (R) and writing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. Also have experiences in capacity building training and hands-on exercises on GPS, basic GIS, field survey design, and data analysis for the young conservationists. Comfortable with different donor required work plans, reports, work-trackers and policies (procurement, financial, peoples development), etc. Have experience working with national and international donors such as USAID, World Bank, US Fish and Wildlife, MacArthur, Blue Resources Trust, GIZ, Rainforest Trust, Panthera, etc. Currently working as Marine Spatial Analyst in Marine conservation team at Wildlife Conservation Society Bangladesh. My primary responsibilities include identifying priority sites to establish marine protected areas (MPA), evaluate and analysis of field data to support marine spatial planning, generating reports, and capacity building of the teams.
