About Mohammad Zahirul Haque

I am an old Faujian (Faujdarhat Cadet College, 25th batch). After completion of my Bachelor degree (B.Sc.Hons. in Forestry) from University of Chittagong, I worked as a Tea planter in Sathgaon Tea Estate, Sreemongal, Moulvibazar, Bangladesh. Later I joined in Bangladesh Forest Department as an Assistant Conservator of Forests and worked in Cox's Bazar, Modhupur, Sylthet forestry institute and Sundarbans. I achieved MS degree in Environmental Science, Post graduation diploma (PGD) in Wildlife management from WII, Dehradun, India and in 2016 obtained PhD degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. My forestry job covered forest conservation, Environmental management, Ecotourism, Enrichment of Biodiversity, Ecosystem restoration, Wildlife Management and Administrative Works. I did my PhD research on Watershed Management which has significant application for our hilly areas and upstream water quality status. The title of PhD thesis was ‘An Evaluation and Controlling Measures for Soil Erosion and Water Quality in Langat sub Basin, Malaysia’. All my research analysis was in ArcGIS environment and I also used MS excel, Minitab 17 and SPSS 20 software for that. Having achieved PhD degree, I backed to Forest Department and worked in Development Planning (DP) unit for about one year. Then I was ranked to Assistant chief conservator of forests, Social forest wing (ACCF,SF) at forest directorate, Agargaon, Dhaka. Again I was posted as Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Tangail Forest Division. My additional assignment is Project Director, Ecotourism Development and Sustainable Management of Madhupur NP through Collaboration of Local and Ethnic Communities. After about two and a half years I joined as Deputy Project Director, Sustainable Forests and Livelihoods Project. At present, I am posted as Divisional Forest Officer, Coastal Afforestation Division, Bhola. In the meantime, I worked for few months in Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB) and State University of Bangladesh (SUB) as adjunct faculty in the departments of Environmental Science and Environment Management. I visited India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China for conference, workshops, seminar etc.
