About Moira Dennison

My work in non profits goes back to the mid 1980s where I started off working with people who had physical and learning disabilities and then moved into palliative care, oncology and rare disease. The theme that ran through my work like the letters in a stick of rock has always been - development - of services; of organisations. I've worked at government level on issues such as accessible transport and sexual abuse - bringing together the service development and campaigning strands of my experiences. And all of that expertise - all of that knowledge of managing; of developing strategies, services and staff; of campaigning - all of this has given me an amazing background of resources to draw upon in any sphere of activity. Alongside my non profit background I have also 6 years experience of working with a start up in renewable energy. In a voluntary capacity I have been on the Board of a Rape Crisis Centre as well as acting as the Secretary for two Boards of Trustees and being involved in a local transition town initiative. In the early I was a mentor with the National Mentoring Consortium. Since 2016 I have been a non exec Director of Project Embrace - an amazing resource in the mental health sector. I have volunteered as part of Birkbeck's Alumni programme in their Career's Clinic. My last Board position was with SwanLifeLine in Eton - I stood down in January 2021. I am a volunteer phone befriender with the RAF Association and also with a county wide service for vulnerable people in Suffolk. Having the experience of being on the Board as well as in a paid capacity, working to the Board gives me incredible insight into the ways in which organisations work and how to effectively problem solve.
