About Mollie Etheridge

With seven years of experience in higher education settings, I am a principled and committed Research Assistant (becoming postdoctoral associate upon thesis submission) at the University of Cambridge.I am currently working on a project that examines how research culture and practices in higher education institutions impact the well-being, productivity, and creativity of academics and researchers. Within the project, I am co-leading on a strand that investigates the role of professional expectations in researcher relationships. I am also in the final stages of a PhD in Education from the same university. My PhD exposes the politics of care that underpin academic work, with a focus on the 'care obfuscations' of academic mothers. Care obfuscations is a novel concept developed through my PhD work, and I have presented it to academic audiences at the SRHE 2021 conference, and BSA WES 2023 conference. Two further publications discussing the concept are undergoing peer review. I currently supervise 16 undergraduate students on research methods and the sociology of education. I have experience with widening participation schemes, having supervised on the 2022 Sutton Trust Summer School programme, and the 2024 Caius College Higher Aspirations scheme. In addition to the above, I have three years experience an Admissions Selection Interviewer for BA Education applicants at Selwyn College, where I assess the potential and suitability of candidates for the course.
