About Molly Ahern

Molly specializes in design and implementation of qualitative data collection methods, nutrition-sensitive value chains research and participatory program design for identifying nutrition-sensitive entry points for agriculture and food security international development projects. Prior to joining FAO, Molly worked for a boutique consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado on projects for clients such as CGAP, USAID, GAC/DFATD, and MEDA, and served as a Nutrition and Value Chains Specialist for Bioversity International and WorldFish, based in Lusaka, Zambia for a 3-year research project on fish, leafy vegetables and bean value chains. She managed field operations in Zambia and Malawi including implementation of household surveys, monitoring and evaluation systems, market research, facilitation of focus groups and workshops, and nutrient and shelf-life analysis of fish products. Past experiences include consulting for Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture in Zomba, Malawi and Bioversity International in Turrialba, Costa Rica (CATIE) and Maccarese, Italy. Molly has liaised with a range of donor agencies, NGOs, and government agencies including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, the World Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and other regional government agencies and institutions related to the area of agriculture, food security and nutrition, such as the Zambia National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC), Lotuno Enterprises, SUN Business Network, WorldFish and Bioversity International (CGIAR) Molly holds a Master of Human Development and Food Security from Universita degli Studi Roma Tre, and speaks English, Italian and Spanish
