About Monica Sprague

My career as nurse started in public health where I worked for Enhance Medical Services (EMS) program for the County of Riverside. I worked closely with the Department of Social Services and Children Protective Services. I was assigned a caseload of EMS children with medical needs. Where I provided oversight on children's medical needs and had the responsibility to deemed clients as medically fragile. I was a support entity to both social services department and caregivers during the care of the children and during BATES meetings. I transition my profession to bedside care when started my employment in a Stepdown Unit/ Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Riverside University Health System. I worked as PCU nurse for about 6 years. As a PCU nurse I gained ICU skills by being oriented and trained to provide patient care in ICU as unit requirement to float to ICU. In addition, I had the opportunity to preceptor oncoming new graduate nursing students or new hire nurses to the unit. I was a unit charge nurse in PCU where I showcase leadership skills and problem solving strategies. I continue to be a committee member for the hospital's Daisy Award Committee. After working in PCU, I transitioned to Throughput Nursing. As a throughput nurse I assist the hospital with optimizing throughput by a form of resolving discharge barriers and providing discharge support to all unit.
