About Monie Thach

I graduated magna cum laude (GPA 3.74) in Spring 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering with a concentration in life sciences and a Bachelor of Science in physics from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), with minors in mathematics and chemistry. I am currently applying to Ph.D programs with a focus on reactor design and protein production while working over the summer with Dr. Peters on designing a radial flow bioreactor to produce a liraglutide precursor. I previously worked with a graduate student under Dr. Worth Longest on designing nasal cannulas for preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome as a part of the dean undergraduate research initiative (DURI) at VCU. In addition to research, I was an active member in the Tau Beta Pi honor society for engineers, where I raised over 200 USD for Ram Pantry. In addition, I served as an undergraduate mentor for freshman in Sophmores as a part of the VCU Chapter for the American Institute for Chemical Engineers (AIChE). I was also a member of the Omicrom Delta Kappa honor society chapter at VCU. My professional work experience outside of research was working for United Parcel Services from 2018-2023 on the preload shift, which runs between 3 AM to 9AM in the early mornings every weekday and occasional weekends.
