About Moninya Roughan

I lead a vibrant team of oceanographers, ocean data scientists and technical experts. We investigate complex dynamical processes in the ocean, including ocean warming, marine heatwaves and dynamic western boundary currents and eddies and their interaction with shelf waters. We use a combination of observations and numerical modelling. I lead the FVON Pacific program, instrumenting fishing vessels as oceanographic vessels of opportunity, and lead the coastal moorings, radar and glider program within the state of NSW as part of Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System. I supervise Phd Students, postdocs, ocean modellers, software engineers, data scientists and marine technicians all of whom are striving to understand the challenging and complex oceanic environment. I lead by example to create an inclusive work environment for my team that represents the diversity found in our society. My goal is to make a fundamental contribution to Oceanography in Australia, the Pacific and Internationally. To do this, I support my team to be the best that they can be while solving exciting problems and undertaking industry relevant research.
