Fetal Medicine consultant and fetal surgeon at the department of obstetrics of the Leiden University Medical Center. Head of dept. for Prenatal Diagnosis. Focus on pregnancies with fetal malformations, complicated monochorionic twin pregnancies or other fetal medicine issues. Special interest in fetal cardiac defects, fetal therapy, multiple pregnancies and screening for fetal defects. Project leader of 2 fetal cardiology research themes: fetal development in cases with cardiac defects and innovative diagnostic technology in fetal cardiology, and currently guiding 7 PhD students. Project leader of the national evaluation of the implementation the first trimester anomaly scan. Started the PRECOR registry in 2007, which contains all fetal and postnatal cases with a cardiac defect born in the highly-populated provinces 'Noord-Holland' and 'Zuid-Holland'. This registry has been initiated with the primary aim to monitor screening in the Netherlands and is a large database of fetal heart defects (currently over cases). Initiator of the fetal heart defects biobank in LUMC. Published over 200 peer reviewed papers and is a frequently invited speaker at international congresses and teacher in various ultrasonography courses. She is the clinical advisor for the SPSRM (Stichting Prenatale Screening Randstad-Midden).
