About Monisha Ilangovan

Throughout my journey as a student in MIU, I have acquired a few useful techniques that I believe will equip myself to be a good biotechnologist. I have learned on how to extract phenolic compounds, extract & quantify DNA, precipitate protein, conduct air sampling, conduct Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA gel electrophoresis, & the Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism methods, isolate lymphocytes from the whole blood, group blood according to their blood group, & many more. Not only that, I have read a lot of journals & research articles about cancer & stem cells & I have deepened my in these area. With this interest, I'll be doing my internship in UPM under the supervision of Professor Dr.Rajesh Ramasamy, who is a lab-based immunologist and principle investigator of stem cell and immunity research group. I can't wait to be one of his intern students because I'd like to be someone who strives to bring cure for cancer. Apart from that, as for my Final Year Project, I've managed to synthesize active biofilms from the cellulose nanofiber that has been extracted from the banana pseudostem. This was to introduce antimicrobial properties in food packaging. This study inculcated an interest in me, in which I'd like to study more about this area since antimicrobial resistance is increasingly recognized as a serious worldwide threat, jeopardizing medical progress, & the ability to treat infectious illness. By indulging in the world of stem cells research, my vision is to implement a cure when it comes to cancer where everybody can lead longer, better lives, & free from the fear of cancer. Apart from that, another vision of mine is to implement Bioinformatics in treating cancer, in which cancer bioinformatics is one of the multiple ways to observe the disease metabolisms, signaling, & etc. Other than that, by indulging in the world of food packaging, my vision is to synthesize bioplastics that are environmentally friendly & has antimicrobial properties to prevent food spoilage, thus, enhancing human health. To sum up, I'm a person who is an avid reader, loves to research about food packaging, cancer, & stem cells. I enjoy conceptualizing & breaking things down to its most simplest denominators & understanding every aspect of it. I'm also a person who believes that with deep understanding comes the ability to improve & optimize, & at the end of the day, we all want more out of less.
