About Montrell Frei

I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished and have had the pleasure of working on so far in my life and look forward to what I’ll be doing in the future. Me-2023 In addition to the classes I’ve taken for Mechanical engineering, I have experience building and programming robots. Not only was I a part of a First Tech Challenge(FTC) from 2011-2014 and a First Robotics Competition(FRC) from 2011-2013. I was the head programmer from 2012-2014 and used my certification in Solidworks Design to create 3D models of the robots we planned to build. In addition to these events in the past I continued building Robots in college for where I used my 3D Printer and Fabrication skills in either the machine shop or on the laser cutter. I feel the knowledge of these tools and the process of problem solving that comes with build robots has given me the ability to adapt to new and unfamiliar situations. With the introduction and completion of my senior design project, I now know what it’s like to work on an interdisciplinary team. My senior design project was an automated hydroponics system that was called SproutMesh. I was one of the two mechanical engineers that designed and built the system from the ground up. What I learned from this experience is that communication is key when trying to work with other people from other disciplines and even my own. I am also proud to say that I passed my Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in Early May of 2018. I Feel all these hands-on experiences have given me the tools and knowledge to be a great engineer.
