Doctorate in Vegetable Science (Horticulture). Expertized in chilli breeding through Masters and Doctorate Research work. Currently working as Assistant Breeder in Hot pepper breeding programme in Nongwoo Seed India PVT. LTD, Bangalore.Core responsibilities and Projects handled:Development of commercial Hot Pepper hybrids (Red Dry and Fresh Green Segments) for the India and Southeast Asian markets. Red Dry Segments- Red Dry Short, Red Dry Smooth Medium, Red Dry Smooth Long and Byadgi (Kaddy and Dabby). Fresh Green Segments- Jwala wrinkled, Fresh Green Short, Fresh Green Medium, Fresh Green Long, Achari, Bajii, Bullet and Upright Solitary or Cluster. Hybrid Development Using CGMS and GMS: Worked on the development of Cytoplasmic Male Sterility (CGMS) and GMS-based hybrids. Marker-Assisted Selection (MAS): Applied MAS in back-cross breeding for better precision in trait selection. Utilized MAS for the introgression and gene pyramiding of resistance genes (PM,ChiLCV, CMV, ChiVMV Anthracnose & BLS). Marker Development: Developed markers for resistance to ChiLCV. Disease and Pest Resistance Screening: Utilized artificial screening techniques to identify resistance lines for ChiLCV, CMV, ChiVMV, Anthracnose, Bacterial Wilt and Thrips. MAGIC Population and SSD: Utilized MAGIC Populations and SSD breeding methods to strengthen resistance breeding. Crossing Block: Organized crossing blocks according to dry and fresh market segments. Combining Ability Studies: Conducted studies to evaluate General Combining Ability (GCA) and Specific Combining Ability (SCA) for effective hybrid development. Hybrid Trials: Conducting hybrid trials at hotspot and Multi-Location Trial (MLT) locations to evaluate hybrid performance. Double Haploid (DH) Line Evaluation: Evaluated and utilized DH lines for both dry and fresh hot pepper segments for hybrid development. Data Management: Recorded and updated data in ERP and Agro-Base software to ensure accurate tracking of breeding project progress and hybrid development.Hotspot Breeding: Hotspot breeding focused on development of ChiLCV resistance lines at Madhya Pradesh, Guntur and Varanasi. Monitoring the multi-locational trials (Guntur and Varanasi) for hybrid advancement.
