About Morgan Dethlefsen
Growing up on a tiny, car-free island only three miles long and a half mile wide (Kwajalein, Marshall Islands) gave me a deep understanding of the importance of land use and active transportation. As the country is at the front lines of climate change, reducing our GHG emissions—of which transportation is the biggest sector—is of utmost importance. Tackling climate change requires us changing how we plan our cities and get around and reckoning with the consequences of 70 years of the suburban experiment and automobile dependence. Since moving from the Pacific Ocean to the Ocean State, I have continued to study transportation, land use, and policy at Brown University. In school, I am concentrating in Urban Studies and International and Public Affairs (Development track); in the workforce, I interned in RIPTA's Long Range Planning Division and Transportation Planning and Programming at the City of Minneapolis. Nothing excites me more than transit and how it makes our world a better, cleaner, and more livable place!
