Dr. Getchell completed her PhD in communication at the University of Kentucky in 2016. Her research focuses on the areas of risk and crisis communication. Her dissertation-Chaos theory and emergent behavior: How ephemeral organizations function as strange attractors through information communication technologies- focused on the 2014 West Virginia water crisis. She has worked on funded projects through the Department of Homeland Security, the United States Geologic Survey, and the United States Department of Agriculture. During her time at UK, Dr. Getchell was a primary instructor in the Department of Integrated Strategic Communication where she taught a variety of courses. She has experience teaching AP style, press release writing, social media strategy, direct marketing strategy, creative execution, qualitative and quantitative research methods, survey design, media law, media ethics, and public relations tactics.
