About Moriah Mason

Journalist Ida B. Wells once said,"The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them." It is no secret that America has systematically oppressed African Americans. Black people have been historically and continuously oppressed, from slavery to Jim Crow laws to police brutality. Furthermore, to right the wrongs of racism and discrimination, I intend to use my platform as a journalist to bring to light the stories that go unheard and unwritten. I aspire to write articles that help the general public become aware of the racism that people of color endure. I am passionate about journalism because I believe that words have power. They have the power to uncover and expose problems in our society, such as the muckrakers in the Progressive Era achieved. Journalists must use their skills to shed light on injustices to better our society and world. Journalists should also use their skills to inform their audience of accurate information and should be committed to bettering the lives of their readers. So, whether that's sharing a series of recipes or providing more information about an event, journalists have a responsibility to help their readers. I am also passionate about the feminist movement. I believe women should have access to career opportunities and equal pay in any job. I also support the LGBTQIA+ community, and I believe that America needs to be more accepting of this community.
