About Moses C. Theimer

I am a tenured Professor at the Communication Department at New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), a state-funded junior college that offers dual enrollment and college courses. For over 17 years, I have been teaching and developing a range of communication courses, such as Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Film Studies, Cinema History, TV Production, and Digital Filmmaking. I have also grown the department from its infancy and created three new film courses that integrate cellular phone camera technology into the classroom. My teaching philosophy is based on the Chinese saying:"Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand." I strive to involve, challenge, and inspire my students to pursue the love of wisdom rather than wisdom itself, as Socrates said. I use video recording, feedback, and interactive exercises to help my students overcome their fears, develop skills in rhetoric, critical thinking, and persuasion, and appreciate the art and history of cinema. I hold a Master of Education in Administration from Eastern New Mexico University, a Master of Fine Arts in Communication Arts from The American Film Institute, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from California State University-San Bernardino. I am also fluent in Spanish and know some Mandarin and Quichua.
