About Moses Gates

I have been involved in all aspects of housing and Neighborhood Planning in the New York Region, including public policy research and advocacy, negotiating and consulting with local government and elected officials, education and technical assistance for developers, financing, construction management, and marketing and community outreach. As an Urban Planner, in addition to housing and community development issues, I have a strong concentration in Methods, Real Estate and Affordable Housing and currently teach a graduate course in Demographic and Planning methods at the Pratt Institute. I have written extensively about travels to the unknown and hidden areas of New York and several other large world cities, and am the author of Hidden Cities: Travels to the Secret Corners of the World's Great Metropolises, published by Tarcher/Penguin. In this capacity I've been profiled in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, the Economist, and other publications; consulted for books and television; and have appeared as an on-camera guest host on the History Channel and Travel Channel. I have also been a licensed New York City tour guide since 2001, and have been recognized by New York City as one of its most knowledgeable guides.
