About Mpho Silima

With over 10 years of experience in public health, research, and program management, I am a passionate and skilled Programme Officer Consultant at Hlanganisa Institute of Development Southern Africa, a leading non-profit organization that supports grassroots initiatives for social justice and human rights. In my current role, I provide technical assistance in the form of monitoring and evaluation (M&E), organizational development (OD), and program development (PD) to non-profit organizations and community-based organizations working on gender-based violence (GBV) programming. I apply my expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting, as well as my knowledge of best practices and innovative approaches in GBV prevention and response, to enhance the impact and sustainability of the programs I support. I am also a PhD candidate at the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand, where I am conducting a longitudinal research project on the intergenerational transmission of violence in families in Mpumalanga. My research focuses on the behavioral change in parenting practices among women navigating the HIV, IPV, and mental health syndemic. I hold a Master's degree in Public Health from the same institution, and another Master's degree in Economic Development from the Universidad Carlos de Madrid. My academic interests lie in HIV/AIDS research, social determinants of health, and gender equity.
