Q. What does being an Operations guy in Timber Trading industry mean? A. You have the same-old job everyday, but everyday is always the different-new! From the beginning of my career, I have struggled to remain stable in a monotonous environment. My profile tells the story with initial experiences that I have had, from NGO to Manufacturing to Exports. Never actually could hold my breath for too long! However now when I look back, it was the kind of job I was doing in the past, that made me quit everytime. Guess I was never a spreadsheet guy afterall. I like to find new roads, try different cuisines, learn new culture/traditions, speak local accents/languages, remain close to nature and earn well while doing all this! Working just 9 to 5? Why work for only 8 hours while you still have the juice left for the day, correct? Luckily I have been doing all of the above from last few years which has not only given me professional stability but also vast knowledge of the operational, geographical as well as commercial technicalities of the timber industry. Can you tell me the wood quality just by looking at the tree? I can! I know the price, I know the process, have done measurements and lifted logs when necessary. I understand the region well, have worked in the remotest of the forests in foreign countries without getting lost. I have seen machines in action that were beyond my imagination, worked in rain, under the sun, late nights. In short, you are looking at an expert's profile. To handle the Operations of the scale, one needs patience, curiosity, good observational skills, proactiveness, toughness (both mental and physical), willingness to spend long hours, people skills and some more.
