About Muhammad Awad
I'm a Member Of Technical Staff at AMD Research. I research problems such as leveraging AI for performance analysis and productivity, libraries and runtimes for heterogeneous architectures, and scale-out GPU libraries. Before joining AMD, I earned my Ph.D. at UC Davis, where I was supervised by John Owens. At UC Davis, my research focused on building concurrent GPU data structures, focusing on dynamic ones. I designed and built data structures like B-trees, dynamic graphs, B-trees with versioning, and hash tables. I'm interested in parallel and heterogeneous computing, performance analysis, and concurrent data structures. I write code for fun in languages as high-level as Python or low-level as assembly, but I am a native HIP/CUDA C++ speaker. I am also interested in serving the research community. I am currently on the review board for the Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems and contribute to the OpenSHMEM specification.
