About Mukta Sharma

I am an interdisciplinary AI researcher with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, driven by a deep interest in applying machine learning and computer vision to real-world problems. My research journey began with medical imaging, where I developed image analysis techniques to support clinical diagnostics using MRI and microscopic cell data. This work, part of a collaborative project with AIIMS Delhi, formed the foundation of my doctoral thesis at Gwalior. Over time, my curiosity led me to explore new domains where AI could make a broader environmental and societal impact. I’m currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (Basso Lab) at Michigan State University, where I work at the intersection of remote sensing, crop modeling, and sustainable agriculture. Here, I use AI/ML to develop digital twins for farming systems, enhance vegetation index datasets, and model climate-smart agricultural practices using satellite data and geospatial analytics. What connects these chapters of my career is a consistent focus on using data, algorithms, and interdisciplinary collaboration to solve meaningful challenges, whether in healthcare or agriculture. I bring technical expertise in deep learning, computer vision, geospatial modeling, and data fusion, alongside practical experience in tools like Python, R, ArcGIS, and QGIS. Looking ahead, I am pursuing academic and research leadership opportunities where I can combine cutting-edge AI research with mentorship and teaching. I’m especially passionate about bridging the gap between computational methods and domain science to drive innovation in health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
