About Muneeb Khan

As a dedicated researcher and CT Reader specializing in Computed Tomography Angiograms, I’m passionate about advancing our understanding of cardiovascular health, particularly in predicting and preventing sudden cardiac events and atherosclerosis. My work involves reading both non-contrasted and contrasted CT scans, with a focus on quantitative plaque analysis in major coronary arteries to derive coronary calcium scores—key indicators of heart disease progression. Currently, I’m involved in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), a long-term, multi-institutional research project spanning over 20 years and hundreds of thousands of patients. My responsibilities include assessing plaque development across baseline and follow-up scans, collaborating with biostatisticians on data analysis, and ensuring data integrity to support institutions like the NIH. This research is integral in shaping our understanding of ethnic and regional disparities in cardiovascular disease. I am also contributing to research on Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, examining liver density through non-contrast CT to explore its association with cardiovascular conditions in a study population of over patients. Recently, I submitted a paper exploring coronary artery calcification in athletes as part of a literature review, with particular attention to the impact of exercise on calcification outcomes. This line of research aims to refine our understanding of how different activity levels influence heart health. My goal is to leverage my skills and experience in clinical imaging, data analysis, and quantitative research to contribute to meaningful advancements in cardiovascular medicine.
