About Muzi Mashabane

I am an experienced environmental professional and conservationist with over 13 years of cross-sectoral expertise in environmental management, biodiversity conservation, protected area management, and biological invasions. My career spans national government, parastatal, and municipal institutions, where I have contributed to key programmes focused on sustainable natural resource management, species conservation, policy implementation, landscape restoration, environmental compliance, and evidence-based decision-making. With a strong foundation in research conceptualisation, fieldwork, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, report writing and project coordination, I bring a holistic, solution-oriented approach to complex environmental challenges - combining strategic insight with on-the-ground implementation. I hold a B.Tech in Nature Conservation, a BSc Honours in Environmental Management, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, and I am currently pursuing an MSc in Environmental Management. I am registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist in Environmental Science (Reg. No. 165358), and I am a member of the South African Wetland Society (SAWS) and the Grassland Society of Southern Africa (GSSA). I value interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge-sharing, and have contributed to capacity building through mentoring junior professionals and supporting training initiatives. My strength lies in bridging the gap between science, policy, and practice to support resilient ecosystems and effective environmental governance. I’m always open to connecting with fellow professionals working toward sustainable, science-informed environmental solutions.
