About Myrtani Pieri
I am an Associate Professor of Human Physiology at the University of Nicosia, with a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Oxford and a diploma in Science Entrepreneurship from Oxford’s Saïd Business School. My research focuses on kidney and gastrointestinal physiology, with emphasis on microRNAs in tumorigenesis. In 2011, I won Famelab International, launching a decade‑long commitment to science communication. As co‑founder of SciCo‑Cyprus, I lead initiatives that bridge science and society through festivals, workshops, citizen science, and public talks. From 2020–2025, I was a member of the Global Young Academy, contributing to global working groups on science education, trust in science, women in science, and the UN SDGs. I have also served as President of the Cyprus Evaluation Bioethics Committee and on the National Committee for the Protection of Laboratory Animals in Research.
