About Nada Gordon

I love to lead and inspire people. I have over three decades of experience as a teacher of all ESOL skill areas as well as literature, composition, and creative writing. I've served as Coordinator and Program Director in the field of ESOL. I've hired, trained, and mentored teachers, and advised countless students. I've led faculty groups in professional development activities and facilitated curricular innovations. My classrooms are vibrant and student-centered. In addition to teaching and academic administration, I have worked as an editor at Cambridge University Press and as a writer of educational materials, including a series of course books I worked on when I lived in Japan from 1988 to I am also a well-published and much-anthologized writer with six books of poetry, one non-fiction novel, and several one-act plays. I have two books forthcoming this year, one book of new work, Emotional Support Peacock, and The Sound Princess: Selected Poems 1985-2015 – a milestone in the career of a poet. I have performed my work in major venues such as The Whitney Museum and The Museum of Modern Art. I believe that a classroom or a workplace is a microcosm of larger social realities and therefore aim as a teacher and leader to create environments in which power is shared and hierarchies are up for question. Collaboration is always more inspiring than imperatives. Learners and workers alike need to sense the intrinsic rewards of their efforts while feeling support and guidance as needed. I'm always eager to learn new things: new subject areas, new platforms, new tools, new environments. I feel equal amounts of excitement and trepidation about the new world we face in which artificial and natural intelligences meet and collaborate with each other, and I never stop wondering,"what's next?"
