About Nadia Summers
I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Māori Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) based at the University of Otago in Christchurch. I graduated with my PhD in Psychology, and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology from the University of Canterbury in 2023 and am a Registered Clinical Psychologist. My PhD focused on theoretical issues within statistical methods used to define and classify mental disorders and applied an intersectional feminist critique to highlight how these methods contribute to structural bias in clinical psychological research and practice. Currently, my research is focused on addressing issues of systemic bias in diagnostic frameworks and psychometric measures, and improving outcomes for Māori within mental health settings, including young people and families who experience psychosis.
