About Nan Xu

I am an Assistant Professor in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering, where I lead the Imaging- and Neuro-computations for Precision Informatics Research (INSPIRE) Lab Our lab operates at the intersection of data science and brain science, focusing on advanced computational and data-driven approaches to understand brain function, neurological disorders, and other complex biological processes. We leverage multimodal functional neuroimaging data—including fMRI-BOLD, LFP, optical imaging, and MEG—from animal models, healthy individuals, and patients to decode intricate brain dynamics and disease mechanisms. By integrating these cutting-edge methods, we aim to drive both fundamental discoveries and translational innovations in neuroscience, informatics, and beyond.
