Working with folks with intellectual disabilities for the past 20+ years has allowed me to grow and learn more than any textbook might have taught. I have worked from front line positions providing direct support to management positions overseeing Day Service, Supported Independent Living, Respite, Residential Homes and Foster Homes. Somewhere in all that I also contributed to fundraising efforts, developed policies and developed and provided training to equip people to do the best job they possibly can. This all led to a position where I can impact the safety of employees while improving the quality of the days of the people we support. Facilitating safety for all leads to more competent and confident employee teams who are far better equipped to provide the most appropriate supports to vulnerable people.
