About Nancy Clarke

I have worked, and continue to work, with a range of non-profits, from small independent organizations to large institutions, bringing a background of flexibility and ability to work within and manage a changing environment. My experience is well suited to assist organizations in transition. As Interim Executive Director of United Way of Ocean County, I led the organization, maintained stability, and supported the board's assessment and decision to merge with its neighboring United Way. Previously, I have been a permanent full time Executive Director, leading the American Music Center through major changes in size, diversity of staff and board, expansion of services, and delivery methods of services. As a consultant, I have worked with organizations’ board and staff members to navigate changing demands from constituents and funders, to establish clear financial procedures and systems, and to plan strategies in a time of technological change. For ten years, I was the Director of Finance and Administration for the CUNY Creative Arts Team. I stepped in at a time of transition from their thirty year relationship with New York University, and facilitated building a successful place within the CUNY framework. As a member of the Senior Management Team, I built successful relationships within the greater CUNY organization, assisted staff members in navigating changes in culture, and established systems to ensure a sound financial structure. In 2013, I served as Interim Executive Director of the Creative Arts Team during an unexpected absence of the Executive Director. Under my leadership, we maintained our relationships with our city, state, and private funders, kept our staff on an even keel, maintained communication with and interacted regularly with the university administration, and continued uninterrupted services to the community.
