About Nancy Lowry

I am very detail oriented and deadline driven - from my 22 years working in accounting/finance at Pfizer and my 14 years working as an inpatient coder. During my career at Pfizer I went from being responsible for the $70K site petty cash fund/travel reimbursements to being responsible for the monthly financial close for the Groton production site with Pfizer corporate headquarters. I spent time in payroll, accounts payable, capital assets, cost accounting (raw materials, work in process, finished goods), capital projects, inventory management, and was responsible for balancing million dollar ledgers each month. When Pfizer closed the local plant, I took the opportunity to explore a new career path that would incorporate some of the skills I had in a different field. That's what lead me to my second career in Health information management and inpatient coding. With the adoption of a new coding system (ICD 10), electronic health records, multi-payer reimbursement systems and the ever changing technology that is used in the treatment of diseases and conditions, the need to understand treatments, medications, clinical indicators and the ability to work closely with the healthcare providers provides a constant challenge and requires continual education in order to keep up with the changes in order to be able to dig into the details of a patients chart and accurately assign the correct condition and procedure codes for payment. It's a challenge I enjoy and have excelled in.
