Background

About Nancy Manring

My current research focus is environmental policy and sustainability pedagogy. This line of research involves exploring barriers to effective integration and collaboration between natural scientists and social scientists. Earlier in my career, my research focused on the US Forest Service's adoption of collaborative dispute resolution approaches to address forest plan appeals; I investigated the implications for Forest Service officials as public administrators, and the politics of collaborative dispute resolution in public land management. At Ohio University, I have been involved in new course development focused on sustainability and climate change. In the face of increasingly alarming global environmental problems, I work hard to cultivate hope and empower my students. As a co-founder of the Kanawha Project (a multi-year project designed to enhance the undergraduate curriculum through faculty professional development), I had the great opportunity to work with over 70 Ohio University faculty members to help them learn how to integrate sustainability and climate change issues in their existing course syllabi.
