About Nancy Mitchell

Multilingual, inquisitive, detail-oriented, collaborative, and reflective educational leadership - I've been facilitating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for over 20 years in my roles as an English language teacher and as a teacher educator. Within these roles I've had the opportunity to design small and broad scope learning experiences (materials, syllabi, and curriculum design) for a myriad of needs. In many contexts, teachers are also instructional designers-systematically transforming pedagogical knowledge into materials, activities, and evaluations. We then reflect and revise through design thinking. I have had the privilege and autonomy to incorporate design with teaching. Integral to any language learning experience and to teacher development is cultural and intercultural awareness. I have been an advocate of critical (and introspective) discourse analysis as an avenue for fostering intercultural awareness and understanding throughout my career. As I broaden my learning experience design scope beyond language classrooms, I bring empathy, creativity, self-awareness, multilingual cognitive and social dexterity, transformational and servant leadership approaches, pedagogical knowledge, evaluation expertise, and tech skills to any project. Expertise in: Small & large scope learning experience design (microlearning modules, curriculum design, assessment design, self-assessment, digital and unplugged materials development), reflective practice, intercultural awareness raising, fostering autonomy, teacher education, workshop facilitation, teaching writing, language for specific purposes, citizen education, and adult continuing education.
