As the People and Culture Coordinator at Kalesnikoff—a pioneering 4th-generation mass timber facility in Castlegar, BC, founded in 1939—I’m proud to support a legacy of innovation and sustainability with over 86 years of operation in the heart of the West Kootenays. My role bridges tradition and transformation—championing a people-first approach in a region where forestry roots run deep and the future of building is being reshaped through advanced wood technologies. With close to 300 employees, Kalesnikoff has grown significantly, yet we remain deeply committed to maintaining a small family feel. I focus on cultivating a healthy, inclusive, and engaged workplace where our team can thrive. From onboarding and training to wellness initiatives and cultural development, I bring a thoughtful, community-minded perspective to HR strategy. A key part of my work is driving employee engagement—ensuring our people feel connected, heard, and motivated to contribute to our shared success. Through open communication, recognition programs, and continuous feedback, I help foster a workplace where employees feel valued and empowered. A highlight of our growth has been the recent launch of our new modular division—a bold step toward more sustainable, efficient, and modern construction solutions. This exciting expansion brings new opportunities for job creation, innovation, and community development, and I’m proud to be part of the team building the foundation for its success. I also work closely with community partners to support regional workforce development, build industry-education connections, and promote careers in sustainable forestry, trades, and advanced manufacturing.
