Background
About Nancy Rocha
Hello! My name is Nancy Rocha. Children have always played a part in my life as early as i could remember. Choosing to be an Early Childhood educator is a great extension of all of those experiences. Having a career in which i get to share and shape the education of a child and see their own exploration of how their learning happens is why I am where i am. I currently work for the YMCA OF HAMILTON/BURLINGTON/BRANTFORD. I began my career story with them in 2006. I have experienced being in a preschool, as well as a toddler educator when i began my career with the YMCA in Burlington. In 2015,I transferred into Hamilton; and presently am an Infant Educator at The Stoney Creek YMCA Child Care Centre as a Registered Early Childhood Educator. The educators learn daily as much as the children do at the YMCA. I opened my eyes and mind to a new way of teaching and learning when i was introduced to their Playing to Learn curriculum when i first began at the Y. When FDL began, we had gone further in learning and was introduced to “How Does Learning Happen” through the Ministry of Education. The YMCA supports all their educators through professional development learning experiences. They provide the tools in which we can build on ourselves and enrich ourselves with new views and opportunities. As i journey through my personal YMCA story, i have gained many traits that i believe make me a strong and capable Early Childhood Educator. For example, Communication skills through networking. Making bonds and relationships with my team members, the children, and their families help me to understand myself and my teaching everyday. They are the best resources to help pave my personal growth in my career. For example, communication is key and to connect verbally written or even virtually has made my communication skills stronger in the times we are in presently. As an infant educator, the realm of education has a different approach in some ways. Using their milestones as a guide to their learning has made those “AHA” moments well worth the work to get there. And Learning from a mind so young is in experience in itself. This is my “why” i am here. My story has many chapters to go am ready for it. The best part of a story is to share it. Hopefully this will help you enjoy and share your story as well. Happy Beginnings!
