Background
About Nancy Ross-McCormack
An organizer by nature, whether at work or doing volunteer activities makes me a natural at coordinating and administration. The years of administration in an intensive care unit provided many experiences and lessons in this and successful team building, which I use to this day. I had more long term staff, or members of my team, than any other unit in the ICU. I attribute this to making certain that all support and needed ancillary items were taken care of so my staff did not want, or have to wait, for necessary supplies to do their jobs. I provided the security of knowing everything would be available and ready to proceed when they were. The position I most recently held was much like what I did in the ICU, in that no one contacted me unless in crisis, but it was not a literal life and death situation. From a business standpoint it can be critical to have computers and the client's office network functioning properly. I am able to keep my calm, analytical thinking, and diagnostic skills in tact due to the previous years of actually being in a life and death situations; when working with clients to resolve the issue(s) they contacted me about. I use this same diagnostic, strategic thinking in most of my daily life to plan the most all encompassing path or way to accomplish as much as possible in what time is available. With a positive outcome being the goal for each objective or project taken on. I have also learned that it is important to be open to new ways of doing jobs, and listening is as important as giving input in any situation, and a person should never stop being open to learning. As I start on the next chapter of my "work life", there are many opportunities that are of interest to me and I am checking into; elderly assistance, dog walking, pet & house sitting, administration or clerical position in an environment that doesn't deal with continual crisis management. I had enough stress in the ICU, but don't avoid it, so ready for what's next.
