About Nancy Vargas

You can often find me teaching, doing research, volunteering, or protesting for health equity :) I have extensive experience in positive youth development, education, community organizing, and community-engaged research. For many years, I worked in urban settings developing curriculum and programs for drug and violence prevention, nutrition, mental health, and leadership for K-12 schools and community organizations. At OSU, I have volunteered over hours for the 4-H outreach program getting to know the lived experiences of Latine rural youth and families. It is clear we need to challenge the oppressive systems that create unjust, inequitable environments that reduce youths fundamental human rights to become healthy and thriving adults. My goal as a professor of public health is to challenge and address health inequities impacting the well-being of youth by engaging them in dismantling systems of oppression. As part of my teaching practices, I want to foster environments where student scholars feel they are listened to, cared for, and valued as individuals and creators of knowledge.
