About Naomi Parrish

I have had the opportunity to work as an elementary school teacher in 5th and 6th grade, a Jr. high teacher for grades 7-9 math, and even one position as a math high school teacher. In addition to my years in the classroom, I have been an ELL specialist, a math coach/math interventionist for 4th-6th grade, and a Curriculum Fellow charged with creating content for teachers to use and running professional developments. Over the course of my career, seeing education from many angles, I have developed a great passion for creating resources for teachers to help them better their practice. After my time as a math coach, I decided to pursue my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, so I could eventually make a shift to developing great resources for teachers to help bridge the ever widening achievement gap. Having finished my masters this past fall, I am now applying this knowledge of curriculum development to my own classroom. I am currently teaching 7th grade math at Orion Jr. High where my team decided to flip our classrooms, to better use our class time to engage our students in critical thinking and differentiated practice. As a team, we have designed a canvas course with our own video content, differentiated assignments, and critical thinking tasks available online and in person. We have our special education kids, regular track 7th graders, and honors kids all in one classroom, so developing a curriculum within our math standards that meets the needs of all students has been essential.
