About Narayan Umanath

For those interested and perhaps a few curious others The 2nd edition of "Data Modeling & Database Design" Umanath & Scamell is is now in print. So, from now on I am engaged in: 1. preparing the Instructor support material for the book - DONE 2. Continuing to guide the same Ph.D. student in his research on "Knowledge exchange behavior in a supply channel dyad: a game- theoretic perspective. Well, Fred successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation earlier this year in April and is now gainfully employed as an Assistant Professor starting this Fall. So, now what do I do! Well, we are starting to pull manuscript(s) out of Fred's dissertation for scholarly publication(s). I continue as a visiting faculty at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning in India around Jamuary/February of every year where education from elementary school all the way to Ph.D. is offered free of charge for qualified students who get admission in the institution. I have also been offering Information sessions about our (UC/LCB) graduate programs in Information Systems and Business Analytics in selected cities in India, again, during the month of January every year and am gearing up for the visit in 2016. Here is something new. I experimented with teaching an advanced course in Data modeling/design for undergraduate seniors at the University of Houston last Fall - flew to Houston every other week to teach. While it was fun, at my age, it was exhausting and UH couldn't afford the expenses either. So, that experiment was discontinued! I am not particularly interested in bragging about my "volunteering" activities; but then, that keeps me somewhat busy. I am not looking for a job anymore - after all, I am supposed to have "Retired"; I don't know much anyway other than data modeling & database design and perhaps data warehousing! I am always available to my students as a consultant on database topics free of charge; some make use of it - that is wonderful.
