About Narinder Kumar

I am an orthopaedic surgeon with a passion for primary as well as revision joint replacement surgery, musculoskeletal oncology, in addition to complex and neglected musculoskeletal trauma with special focus on geriatric orthopaedic care. After close to 3 decades of speciality experience (medical education, academic as well as administrative roles) in the premier hospitals of Indian Army, I moved from public to private practice role in 2019 to continue my professional journey of pursuing clinical and academic excellence in a cost-effective manner while sharing my knowledge and skill set with next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. My research interests include operative techniques as well as rehabilitation and PROMS for hip and knee arthroplasty and Traumatology. These interests are based on my having performed more than 4500 joint replacement surgeries (including hip, knee, shoulder and elbow replacement surgeries) besides more than major orthopaedic surgeries. My multiple research publications have been cited more than six thousand times and are published in globally leading journals like JBJS, Lancet and JAMA. In addition to above, my area of interest include medical education at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels, cost effective surgery, patient safety and perioperative infection control. I am an avid proponent of leveraging the power of technology and team work to empower surgical and medical teams to achieve optimal outcomes in an economically sustainable manner, especially in procedures with high costs and complication rates. My experience in armed forces has enabled me to work effectively in extremely varied environment (Low resource and high stress settings in Siachen glacier to highest level of a Research and Referral Hospital). With patient as centre of our professional universe, I firmly believe that it is possible to empower them with not just therapeutic intervention care but also improve their outcomes through a holistic approach to their musculoskeletal health. My academic appointments have included Professor of Orthopaedics at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and at Command Hospital (CC), Lucknow.
