About Nasim Akash

I am a Chemical Engineering graduate with a robust foundation in process engineering, research, and sustainable materials development. Currently based in Calgary, AB, I am an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) registered under APEGA and hold a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary (CGPA: 4.00/4.00). My professional journey includes two years of industry experience, where I've honed expertise in process design, optimization, quality assurance and project management. At CarboMat Inc, I am currently working on developing sustainable carbon fiber and composite materials from asphaltenes, an oil-sands waste, focusing on reducing production costs and CO2 emissions. My role involves managing the product development lifecycle, conducting techno-economic analyses, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. I contributed to securing ~$5 million in funding for further technology development and authored multiple publications on asphaltene-derived fibers and composites. Previously, as a Process Engineer Trainee at Eastern Refinery Ltd, I collaborated on plant upgrade projects, contributing to significant efficiency gains and energy savings. Certifications in Project Management, Hazard Assessment, and WHMIS complement my hands-on experience. I am also skilled in several software programs, such as AutoCAD & SolidWorks for engineering design, OriginLab & Power BI for data analysis and visualization, and Aspen HYSYS for process simulation, in addition to the Microsoft Office Suite. I am passionate about advancing sustainable practices in process engineering and am driven to leverage my skills in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments.
