Natalie Bavari, née Chavez, is an emerging scholar and architectural designer in Charlottesville, Virginia. At WDP & Associates Consulting Engineers, Natalie trains as a forensic architect investigating existing structures to evaluate repair strategies and rehabilitation of historic buildings. As a graduate student at the University of Virginia's A-School’s Architectural History program, she served as President of UVA Society of Architectural Historians and as the Sara Shallenberger Brown Fellow at the Center for Cultural Landscapes. Inspired by her upbringing within an American military and intelligence community, Natalie’s research examines contested landscapes, fortified and blast-resistant architecture, and border conditions particularly within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her master’s thesis titled, “On the Edge of Wilderness: Unpacking the controversial establishment of the U.S. Embassy to Israel (Jerusalem)” examines the consequences of nation building within the most contested area of the world. Natalie was previously awarded a professional five-year architecture degree from Virginia Tech in 2020.
