I am Natasha Botwright, Team Leader for Advanced Animal Health and Welfare, dedicated to driving advances in practical outcomes for the health, welfare, and wellbeing of aquaculture and livestock animals through applied research in close collaboration with industry partners.Our team's research is multifaceted, spanning areas such as immune resilience enhancement, bolstering animals' natural defences against various health challenges. We're at the forefront of innovation, developing cutting-edge therapeutic solutions to redefine the standards of animal health and care. Our approach leverages the power of data and advanced digital technologies, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of animal behaviour, decode their needs and preferences, and empower industries to make informed decisions that benefit both animals and performance. Additionally, we actively support the industry by reviewing and validating best practices in animal welfare and wellbeing, ensuring the highest quality of life for animals.With a career at CSIRO since 2003, my research portfolio is diverse, covering various aquaculture sectors and more recently, livestock. My expertise lies in integrating genetics, genomics, physiology, health, welfare, digital technologies, and analytics to support industry goals across Australian finfish, crustacean, abalone, and oyster sectors. My work encompasses applied research areas including amoebic gill disease, animal behaviour and resilience, genetic engineering, selective breeding, reproduction, meat traceability, and novel protein production.
