I serve the people of Senate District 41 (Mecklenburg County) in the North Carolina Senate. I am running to be NC's next Commissioner of Insurance, a position on the Council of State. I would be the first woman ever elected to that position. In the Senate, I was the Freshman Leader of the Democratic Caucus for my first term. I was the Chair of the Mecklenburg Delegation to the NCGA for the 2021-22 biennium. In my third term, I serve on the Commerce & Insurance, Education, Judiciary, and Elections & Redistricting Committees and was appointed to be the Deputy Leader for Legal Matters by Minority Leader Sen. Dan Blue. Previously, I did civil litigation work with Brooks, Pierce law firm and clerked with a federal judge in Greensboro, NC.
