Background
About Nate Atkins
I have covered the NFL on a beat basis for nine seasons across three beats - Bears (2014-2015), Lions (2016-2018) and Colts (2021-present). I also have extensive feature and enterprise experience from four total years at Chicago Football Magazine and the Lansing State Journal. I implement that writing style and reporting edge into my beat wherever I can. After the 2023 Colts season, that resulted in being named the No. 1 beat writer in the "B Division" of newspapers at the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) conference. After the 2024 season, I finished No. 6 in beat writing as well as No. 3 in breaking news, No. 3 in long feature and No. 9 in explanatory. I'm always open to new opportunities and connections in the industry, wherever journalism can last.
