Background
About Nate Hill
If you have ever heard the quote "jack of all trades" and then gone on to discover that is continues,"is a master of none" but still dug deeper to learn that the quote concludes with "is often times better than a master of one" you will find a person like me. One of the greatest gifts we have as a species is the ability to learn. I love to learn new things; I enjoy adding to my skill set. Learning has allowed me to obtain a large range of skills from K-12 education, substance abuse prevention, community leadership, woodworking, inventory management, graphic design and one of my newest acquisitions coding! Along my path I have added these specific skills as well as many others that have allowed me to be a leader in all my endeavors. Along with my skills I have a secret, it’s my superpower. To be honest it’s not secret I keep to myself because that would defeat the purpose of my superpower. A “superpower” it is a skill or ability that gives a person pride and allows them to do better, and everyone has one. Think about some thing that you excel at; you might not have x-ray vision, but I’d bet that you have an ability that you are proud of that separates you from most people. Mine is the ability to teach to anyone. Teaching is unique in the fact that your audience can change from location to location, day to day or even minute to minute, you must be able to adapt your style to the learning style of your student, that is my superpower. My ability to teach and lead people has allowed me to be proud of many things, from my students understanding a piece of material to community members coming together under a common goal, I have had the unique opportunity to be part of very public and not so public victories and accomplishments. Accomplishments are funny, some of the best are the ones you never get credit for. When I was working in substance abuse education and prevention, I started a community taskforce that brought together community partners (law enforcement, health department, parents, students, business owners) to coordinate efforts to discuss and control alcohol related problems in our community. This was a huge undertaking and filled me with pride to see the community work together toward a common goal. I received a lot of accolades for that project, but to be honest the best part of my substance abuse prevention job was getting to teach at different schools and having a student say “I never thought of it that way” or “wow that makes sense”, those a-ha moments for students are my greatest accomplishments.
