About Nate McKinstry

As the Controller for the Pleasants organization I lead a large accounting department in supporting eight separate business units with a combined gross annual revenue of more than $300 million and employing close to 700 employees during peak busy season. The accounting department consists of 30 employees of which 11 are direct reports. The eight business units range from a small construction debris recycling center employing 20 people up to a large excavation and paving company employing 350+ people. More specifically responsible for the following- Daily supervision of all accounting activities; cash management - Monthly financial statement closings for the eight business units, small commercial rentals, land development companies and a variety of other entities - Weekly payroll processing and weekly check runs- In addition, I oversaw the preparation and review of 100+ business tax returns for 1st tier and 2nd tier investment entities. Previously I worked as the Assistant Controller for the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County, Maryland, which employs more than 340 people with nearly $1 billion in assets and more than $220 million in annual revenues. The Commission finances, develops, and currently owns and/or manages more than residential units spread across multiple properties. Prior to entering the corporate accounting world, I worked for Aronson LLC, a mid-sized public accounting firm in the Washington DC metro area primarily servicing real estate developers, commercial property owners, REITs and construction companies ranging in size from small closely held businesses to companies with $1 billion in assets or nearly $100 million in revenues.
