About Nathan Beaudoin

I graduated from Dalhousie University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in Marine Biology and Psychology. Since then, I have pursued employment in the field of fisheries to enhance my passion for aquatic life and obtain the skills necessary to help make a difference for struggling animal populations. So I became a Fisheries Observer for Javitech Atlantic to monitor fishing activity and bycatch off the coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The job exposed me to the open ocean, a diverse range of marine species and helped develop my scientific sampling skills. A year later, I was hired by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to conduct stock assessment activities on Chinook and Chum salmon crossing the US-Canadian border in the Yukon river. I operated a underwater sonar that allowed me to count salmon as they crossed the border to reach their spawning grounds in Canada. I also conducted fishing activities on the river to catch, sample and release salmon for biological data.
