About Nathan Faessler
A research engineer at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center. Primarily focusing on offshore engineering both in floating offshore wind and scale model testing. This includes developing the DeepCLiDAR metocean buoy, developing the full-scale Volturnus offshore wind turbine project, and assisting with the fabrication of the world’s largest 3D-printed boat. A 2016 graduate of the University of Maine’s Mechanical Engineering program. Since the first month of my undergraduate career, I have worked as an engineering assistant at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center located on the University of Maine Campus. The majority of my time was spent working on the floating offshore wind turbine projects. This included working on the instrumentation team for the 1:8th scale Volturnus turbine, producing high-quality Solidworks models and photo-realistic renderings, managing interns, and being part of the safety board for the new Harold Alfond Wind and Wave Basin. Then in September of 2015, I took the lead on the DeepCLidar Buoy project which is a state-of-the-art offshore wind analysis system. Since receiving my engineering degree, I have accepted a full-time job at the lab and continue to work there today. In addition to my academics and career, I have also been actively involved in the new Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) student section at UMO. This included me being the section president for the 2015 term.
