About Nathan Hamer

From an early age I realised that I'd like to spend my time doing something that is dynamic, beneficial to others, and fulfilling. Throughout my early career this has developed into a passion for non-formal education, community development, and social action. I also enjoy being creative, which I channel through photography, collage art, and writing. My career so far has consisted of an invaluable apprenticeship at Future Foundations, working on the National Citizen Service Programme as Project Administrator. There I learnt how to successfully be part of a project from concept to completion, freely use project management tools and software (Such as Podio), and communicate effectively to any audience. I also regularly organised and ran events, both facilitating smaller group sessions and public speaking at larger presentations. Following my apprenticeship, I have continued to improve the above skills and expand my network on an international level, through the Erasmus+ programme, and volunteering for Momentum World and Europeers UK. One of many great projects I have been involved with was a Long term European Solidarity Corps project, where I lived and worked in Kielce, Poland for 10 months, facilitating workshops to the local community that were mainly on Language and Human Rights. I have also worked for Galaxy Travel and Lime Living, where I assisted with administrative and social media support. Since returning from Poland, I completed a level 3 qualification in Art & Design, whilst doing an internship in marketing & communications with Junction Arts. This led to employment with Junction Arts, firstly as a wellbeing coordinator, working on a health & wellbeing project called Six Pillars. The aim of Six Pillars was to improve the overall wellbeing of young people across key areas of North East Derbyshire & Bolsover District by passing on tools for wellbeing & creatively empowering them through a variety of art workshops. Following Six Pillars, I have now moved into my role as Project & Volunteer Coordinator at Junction Arts, overseeing our volunteer programme as well as coordinating community arts projects and supporting with our large scale festivals & events and fundraising. In the future I can see myself: moving forward in my journey as a facilitator, Venturing into longer term community development/social action project management, Furthering my understanding of community arts, And building a photography/design portfolio.
