About Nathan Hanson

Dr. Hanson has been growing as a pharmacy leader for over 15 years. He is actively involved with the ASHP Commission on Affiliate Relations, the Kansas Council of Health-System Pharmacists (KCHP) Government Affairs Committee, and the Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) Public Policy Committee. He is a past-president of MSHP, and he serves on the Missouri Board of Pharmacy Hospital Advisory Committee. In these roles he has focused on the areas of leadership development and public policy. He is heavily involved with advancing the profession and developing technicians. In his current role he serves HCA HealthMidwest, which encompasses 7 hospitals located in Kansas and Missouri. He supports 7 Directors of Pharmacy and oversees a regional drug distribution operation serving those hospitals. He enjoys the oversight of financial management, leadership development, strategic planning, clinical services, controlled substance management, sterile compounding, Joint Commission readiness, and pharmacy distribution. He co-authored the USP 800 guidance document that is the pattern for policies at 185 HCA hospitals, implemented an IV Workflow Software system across the system, and led efforts to create a technician career pathway. He founded a PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency, precepts APPE students, and teaches guest lectures at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy.
